More on Women in the Military

Hi friends - several weeks ago I wrote a very controversial column about women in the military.  I argue that women have a valuable role to play in the military, but NOT on the front lines.  (In a volunteer military, we have no business sending young mothers off to fight why the guys safely tend the homefires back here.)

Anyway, there’s a very interesting piece in today’s USA Today that speaks to this issue. (Yes, guys suffer post traumatic stress disorder too, though it appears at lower rates than women do.)

(You’ll have to paste the link into your browser. )

Have a great day.

The reason why guys “seem” to experiance it less often than women is because they aren’t willing to go and get help. Look at the suicide rates. Men kill themselfs more often than the women do. I think that it proves that women are stronger in the mental area than the men are because we are willing to say hey, somethings wrong, we need to fix it. Guys see it as a weakness and let it build til they break. Once again, I wonder, why are you do focused on trying to show how weak SOME women are? I’ll be glad to tell you I have an EOD contract with the Army now and will be going to Iraq this time next year. And you’ll probably be wondering what EOD is Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Yeah, that’s right, I’m going to be going and blowing up things before they blow us up. I’ll Leaving my daughter behind. And I’m going to be glad one day because she will look back and be proud of what her mommy and daddy have done for her and her country. No, I don’t plan on dying, but if it’s my time, I’ll be glad to go while doing something productive with my life. Instead of sitting on my butt trying to tell people how they should or should not raise their children. You’ll probably look down on that too now that I come to think of it. When I am here, and my daughter is old enough to understand and do, she will be doing push-ups, sit-ups, and the like instead of spanking or time out. It’s worked wonders for my brothers children, and I plan on using it myself. But honestly, quit trying to bring down your own gender. You might be weak, but I believe that I am strong. And I honestly don’t think that Iraq will compair to the life that I’ve lived so far. I found that out last month after I rolled my car. I figure that if rolling your car won’t scare you, being shot at or in a hostile area won’t scare you anymore or less.
