“Hello Muddah! Hellow Faddah! I am Here at, Camp Grenada. . . “

Hi friends – here’s a really interesting piece from Nancy Gibbs and TIME magazine – it seems it’s the moms and dads who don’t want to let go of their kids when it comes time for summer camp. Having their kids hide cell phones from the counselors so the kids can continue “texting” mom and dad? Ouch!

I’ll be talking about this issue on the radio show this week (Sunday, AM1160/WYLL Chicago, noon – 1:00 central time) with a researcher from the American Camping Association – wow does he have insights on how things have changed.

“Over-tethered” parents and summer camp is also the subject of my column this week, which I’ll post tomorrow.

Here’s why I’m focusing on all this this week – 3 of my 4 kids leave for camp this weekend. (FYI – I can’t wait!)

It’s Not Your Father’s Summer Camp

Thanks for stopping by.
