Hi friends – I hope you’ll listen today to “It Takes a Parent,” AM1160/WYLL Chicago, at noon central time.

I’ll have a lot of fun for you on the show today including playing a certain voice mail message, one of several sent to me from one of my daughters recently, in the “Hart Beat” part of the show. You will not want to miss that.

Then, I get to talk to my friend Marjorie Dannenfelser, Presient of the Susan B. Anthony list, the pro-life political action committee, on “what now for the social conservative agenda in Washington?” She has great insights and action plans, a long with a lot of concerns – and a good dose of humor and faith – so you won’t want to miss it.

You can also catch the show later here (by Monday evening) or starting Friday on NationalReview.com.

As always, thanks for stopping by for all all the e-mails I get from you. I read every single one!

Have a great Thanksgiving week – Betsy

Column – Is “Sin” Out of Vogue – Even in Church?

Hi friends – here’s this week’s column based on a new book I really like, “Christless Christianity” by Michael Horton. I hope you find Horton’s themes as provocative as I did.

my column

And I think you’ll really like this week’s radio show on Sunday at noon, WYLL/AM1160. More on that later!

Happy Thanksgiving- and thanks for stopping by!

Radio Show – Is Today’s Generation Waiting Too Long to Get Married?

Well, according to Dr. David Popenoe, yes! He’s a professor emeritus of sociology at Rutgers University, and director of the prestigious National Marriage Project there. He has a lot to say on the matter.

For one thing? He thinks our high expectations concerning marriage today doom too many of them to failure before they start. (Think of Eharmony’s promise to help you find your “soul mate.” It may be no wonder that already, the evidence seems to be that marriages which come from Eharmony have a higher break-up rate than the culture as a whole!)

Personally, I’m beginning to think we might want to bring back arranged marriages — see my column of this week. Okay, I’m kidding but then again. . .

If you couldn’t catch the show yesterday at noon (AM1160/WYLL Chicago) check in here later today for the MP3 file here, or on Friday visit NationalReview.com.

As always, thanks for listening and thanks for stopping by!

Column – The Average Age of First Marriage is Up, and That’s a Downer!

Hi Friends – here’s this week’s column.  Yet another rise in average age of first marriage was announced this week.  But is that good for individuals – or our culture? (Hint: no!)

my column

By the way, for those of you who will be at Navy Pier in Chicago this Saturday night for the Illinois USO Salute to the Troops Gala, please come up and say “hi” to me.   I’d love to meet you as we celebrate together our wonderful men and women who serve this country!

Have a great weekend – and thanks for stopping by.

Thanks to our Vets!

Happy Veterans Day! Thanks to all of you who are currently serving, or have served our country to preserve our freedoms! Thank you for your sacrifice.

If your kids have a grandparent or other relative or older friend who served, here’s a suggestion – how about having your kids call them with a big thank you? If you yourself mom or dad are serving or have served, let your kids thank you! You more than anyone know vets need the appreciation, and our kids need to express it.

And here’s a great movie suggestion for the whole family. “Sargent York.” Based on the real life story of WWI’s most famous veteran, it’s themes of duty and sacrifice are great for the whole family.

Have a great day – and thanks for stopping by.

Radio Show – Do We Have a Crisis of Christless Christianity in America?

Dr. Michael Horton says “yes”! He’s the author of the new book, “Christless Christianity.” (He’s written many other books, including “Putting the Amazing Back into Grace.”)

Horton argues in his provocative new book that it’s not about “liberal” or “conservative” theology. It’s not even about the vigor of American evangelicalism. It’s that in churches across the board, Christ is being taken out of the gospel, and replaced with a therapeutic message that misses the cross, even in ways that sound. . . Christian.

I hope you’ll tune in today to “It Takes a Parent” at noon central on AM1160 WYLL in Chicago, listen streaming on www.wyll.com, or get the podcast by tomorrow evening here or on Friday on NationalReview.com.

In the meantime, visit “www.christlesschristianity.org”

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely Sunday.

Radio Show – A New “Green” Day in Washington?

Hi Friends – I hope you get a chance to listen to this week’s “It Takes a Parent,” radio show. Dr. Calvin Beisner, spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation (www.CornwallAlliance.org) is back to talk about the environmentalist agenda and what it could cost us – literally – if that agenda is given its head in Tuesday’s election.

Did you know that Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, wants to cut carbon emissions in the U.S. by half – half – of their current rate by the year 2050? Forget what “spreading the wealth” would cost, that agenda would have a catastrophic impact on America’s families. But most of all it would devastate the world’s poor as energy prices – needed for everything we use – would skyrocket.

The environmentalist agenda sounds so good. . . we have to help our kids think rightly about it, because no one else is!

I’ll also talk to Beverly Rothstein, CEO of “yourslimvision.org” when she tells us how to handle all that leftover Halloween candy. And do you agree with Parenting magazine which tells parents to “understand” why their children lie? Or do you think lying is just. . . wrong? All that is in store for you in this week’s radio show.

“It Takes a Parent” airs noon Sundays, AM1160 WYLL, or podcast here and nationalreview.com

Don’t forget to vote, and thanks for stopping by!
