TIME Magazine – How the “New Calvinism” Is Changing the World

I just came across this in TIME, and thought you might find it interesting:  Of the 10 trends changing the world right now, according to TIME, #3 is the “new Calvinism.”  Those of us who call ourselves Calvinists (or Reformed) think only that John Calvin opened up Biblical truth more fully to his world 500 years ago, and since.  But whatever you call it today, there seems to be an emerging consensus that the center for dynamic evangelical thought and movement right now is within a distinctly Reformed framework.  Even TIME noticed!  Enjoy.

Hi friends – I hope you tune in today to “It Takes a Parent,” AM1160/WYLL at noon.  My guest is cultural critic Marybeth Hicks, writer for the Washington Times.  We’ll talk about everything from the hook-up culture on college campuses (a local FOX 5 report this week made me crazy!), the fact that a report showed that fewer people in the U.S. are calling themselves religious and going to church, and more.

Remember, you can listen to the show streaming at www.wyll.com, of later here on on nationalreview.com.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Two reminders from my sponsors:  Matt’s Cookies is now available from Peapod delivery service, and Massage Envy is running a fabulous special for “March Madness”- a $39 introductory massage! That’s Massage Madness – enjoy!

Radio Show – Kids Feeling a Little Panicked About the Economy? Let them!

Listening Options:
1. Online: Click the right arrow.
2. Offline: Click the “Download” button.

To download this program click here

Hi friends – I hope you tune in in just a few minutes to “It Takes a Parent” on AM1160/WYLL radio Chicago, or streaming at www.wyll.com. (12:00 noon central time.) Lots of fun things to talk about in the “Heartbeat” part of the show, then my guest is Jeff Zaslow of the Wall Street Journal. He notes studies – and a lot of anecdotal evidence – that the recession is making folks a lot more grateful and less grumbly. What a silver lining, right? Kids, listen up!

Then we talk internet safety with Larry Magid, founder of “connectsafely.org” – which you’ll definitely want to visit on behalf of your children!

You can find the show after it airs here (usually by Monday afternoon) and by Friday on www.nationalreview.com

As always, feel free to drop me a line. I love hearing from friends and readers.

Happy Sunday!

Radio Show – Do Young People Want to Get Married – Ever?

Listening Options:
1. Online: Click the right arrow.
2. Offline: Click the “Download” button.

To download this program click here

Well, yes. Research according to TRU, a Chicago based youth research firm, shows that while marriage rates overall are declining and the average age of first marriage is later than ever, most young people surveyed (18-30) still hold a high view of marriage. They are just a little intimidated. The feds have started a public relations program to talk about the positive benefits of marriage. What’s holding these young people back in the first place?

Find out today on “It Takes a Parent” at noon on AM1160, WYLL Chicago (streaming at www.wyll.com), when I’ll talk to Peter Picard of Tru. I’ll also have lots of fun things to talk about in the Heartbeat part of the show, so don’t miss it.

But if you do, check back here tomorrow to listen to the show or download it, or go to nationalreview.com on Friday for the same.

Happy Sunday – Betsy Hart
