Hi friends. I realize that pundits all over America are writing about Obamacare. I decided to jump in because, as I told my kids, this one really hits home! I also think a lot of people don’t know about a little history here involving Dan Rostenkowski and some very angry seniors citizens!

Betsy, you talk out of both sides of your mouth it always morals and morality. Our healthcare system is amoral and this bill while not perfect puts healthcare in the US more in line with being moral. If we ask WWJD it is pretty clear He would want us to give healthcare to everyone regardless of their ability to pay.

Rick G> It’s far from being moral since it burdens further generations with another mountain of debt. The dems could have done it correctly but chose to ram through an incomplete bill which does not accomplish the two primary goals, expanded coverage for all and addressing health care costs. The savings cited are fluffy at best. Even my most liberal fellow democrats know those numbers are farcical at best.

Ms. Hart is wrong when she states that other fed expansions didn’t face overwhelming opposition. In 1961, Ronald Reagan along with many others opposed Medicare. Mr. Reagan stated that Medicare would tell doctors where they had to live and the we’d be “a short step to all the rest of socialism”. As far as forcing people to buy health insurance, most of these people probably would like to be able to buy it. And the insurance companies wanted this in the bill and so did the Republicans. Now after they argued for that provision they are using it to call the bill unconstitutional.

The last line of your article is rather chilling in light of the news that congress people who voted for the bill are now receiving violent death threats.
