Computer Glitch – I Don’t Have Mail!

Well, some of my mail, anyway, has been getting lost into cyber space. We’ve corrected the problem. But if you’ve sent me mail anytime in the last 6 weeks, it’s possible I didn’t see it. Feel free to contact me again, through the envelope on this page or directly to “hartmailbox-myblog@yahoo.com.”

Thanks for understanding!

Betsy at the University Club of Chicago May 6

Hi friends – I’m told seats are filling up, so if you’d like to attend this event – and I’d love for you to come – please make your reservations as soon as you can!

Columnist/author Betsy Hart will talk about her book, It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting is Hurting Our Kids — and What to do About It,” (Putnam Books) at a lunch at the University Club of Chicago on Wednesday, May 6, at 12 p.m.

A single mom of four young kids, Hart will talk about where our culture went wrong, how parents are too often terrified their kids might not like them (and this hurts their kids!) and how much better off we could and would be if we could learn to use “no” as a complete sentence with our kids!

Betsy is the parenting columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and hosts the weekly Sunday radio show, It Takes a Parent, on WYLL Chicago. She’s also a regular guest on the FOX News Channel’s “Hannity” show, as part of its Great American Panel.

Plated lunch at 12 p.m., remarks at 12:15 p.m. Books will be available.

Non members of the University Club, please register via the Book Stall in Winnetka, 847-446-8880.

Well, yes according to Christina Hoff Sommers. In a great piece last week in the Washington Post, she described how the Obama Administration is now applying Title IX regulations (those which essentially try to force women into varsity level sports, which always leads to the guys losing spots on their varsity teams) to college science programs. There is only one problem: inspite of mass recruitment efforts, only about 20 percent of hard science courses in college are made up of women.

So, once again to make things “equal” this could have the effect of fewer science spots available to men.

Please notice that the Obama administration is not trying to equalize ratios between men and women in English or education departments which are overwhelmingly female.

Here’s Christina’s piece: A Threat in Title IX

Be sure to tune in today when I have this and lots of fun things to talk about in the “Hart Beat” section of the show too! AM1160/WYLL at noon or streaming live at www.wyll.com or later here or on NationalReview.com

And I’d love to see you on May 6th, when I’ll be speaking at the University Club in Chicago on my book, “It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting is Hurting our Kids, And What to do About It” at a noon lunch. TIME Magazine – How the “New Calvinism” Is Changing the World

I just came across this in TIME, and thought you might find it interesting:  Of the 10 trends changing the world right now, according to TIME, #3 is the “new Calvinism.”  Those of us who call ourselves Calvinists (or Reformed) think only that John Calvin opened up Biblical truth more fully to his world 500 years ago, and since.  But whatever you call it today, there seems to be an emerging consensus that the center for dynamic evangelical thought and movement right now is within a distinctly Reformed framework.  Even TIME noticed!  Enjoy.
