Radio Show

Hi friends - Remember, it “It Takes a Parent” moves to its new date and time this week, Sundays at noon for a full hour. Be sure to listen this week as I talk to Kathleen Parker, author of the new book “Save the Males,” and Jessica DeGroot of the Third Path Institute, who seems to think that men’s and women’s roles can (should?) be even more amorphous than they are now.

That’s AM1160 WYLL Chicago at noon on Sunday, streaming live at WYLL.com, or afterwards listen here or get a podcast from NationalReview.com.

As always, thanks for stopping by. And have a great 4th!

Radio Show - Bringing Up Geeks!

Hi Friends - as you may know by now, “It Takes a Parent” is moving to its new, one hour slot starting Sunday, July 6th. You’ll be able to hear us every week from noon to 1:00. We are very excited about the expanded show. The first program will feature Kathleen Parker, author of the book “Save the Males” - she’ll be on with Jessica DeGroot of the Third Path Institute who says forget save the males, at least when it comes to “traditional” men, that in fact guys and gals need to blend roles when it comes to work, parenting, and home chores more than they ever have!

Well we are getting ready for the expanded show, so this week’s broadcast of “It Takes a Parent” - the last in the Thursday slot - will feature a rebroadcast of an interview with the terrific Marybeth Hicks, author of “Bringing Up Geeks” (hint: it’s a good thing!) which originally aired March 6th.

Listen today at 2:00 central on AM1160 WYLL, streaming at wyll.com, or after the show here and podcast on Nationalreview.com.

Get ready for Sunday, July 6th, to listen in at noon!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Column - Will Men Ever Do Enough? Or, What do Women Want?

Hi Friends - so, what do you think? Do married women have more childcare and household responsibilities because, in general, they want it that way — or because that’s the way it is? This is NOT to say there isn’t a lot of conflict in individual households over this issue - but en masse, do we women really want to share 50/50?

See what you think!

I’ll keep you posted with new developments!

Are You Sick of all Those School “Fundraisers?

I am!

What’s worse is that today, it seems so many parents do the work FOR their kids. When I sold girl scout cookies in junior high, my parents had nothing to do with it. My dad never took my cookie forms to work. I sold the cookies, I kept track of the money, and when the (typically) over one hundred boxes arrived to be distributed, I did it all myself.

It’s way different now, as this Wall Street Journal article by Meghan Gurdon tells us. Don’t we parents know it. (An experience with my youngest is mentioned in Meghan’s piece.)

Enjoy.

Parenting Tip - Don’t Try This at Home!

So, do you dress your youngest children to match the offspring of the Hollywood elite? These moms do - and they are the subject of this week’s column.

This was recently in the Wall Street Journal - ouch!

Today’s “Parenting Tip” - A New Way of Looking at Kindergarten?

Hi Everybody - I hope you are having a great week.

Here’s a very interesting article from the Wall Street Journal about how some kindergartens in Germany are going - back to nature. I think this may go even further than I would like on lightening up on kids in the early years of school, but it’s interesting to see what may be (an extreme version) of a new trend. Maybe even the beginning of the backlash to the “all school all the time” routine we seem to have in the U.S.

Enjoy -

Is Leaving for True Love Worth It?

Friends, I’ve received a lot of comments and e-mails in response to this column - apparently it’s touched where a lot of people are, and I’m grateful for what some of you have shared with me.

Here’s a piece I’d wanted to post since I came across it last week anyway, and now it seems like a good time. It’s all about the wonderful, scary, all-consuming dopamine high of love, and because it’s so true (and so funny!) - it will make you laugh out loud.

An Affair of the Head

I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
